MOM 2024 preview: 4 days, 4 challenges

The 5th edition of the Maximus O Meeting is just around the corner, and this year will undoubtedly be one of the most special editions with four days of competition in four totally different areas that will offer participants a great variation in physical-technical requirements and… 100% enjoyment.

MOM 2024 will also be one of the largest events of the Winter, with more than 250 runners in the elite classes and probably over 2000 participants in total. Big names in the starting field like Tove Alexanderson, Sara Hagström, Emil Svensk, Timo Sild,… It will be exciting!

Stage 1 – Long WRE

The Long distance of the Maximus-O-Meeting (WRE) will be another of the highlights of the winter. A beautiful pine forest with extremely good runnability in the Southen area, combined with denser vegetation and trickier contour features in the North will give the runner a big variation of landscapes, rhythms, and technical demands. Another masterpiece by Janne and Timo.

Stage 2 – MIDDLE WRE

The Middle distance of the Maximus-O-Meeting (WRE) will be one of the highlights of the year. Tricky terrain with runnabilty variations in and very, very detailed area. Great mapping job by Janne Weckman and Timo Joensuu, and very glad to be the course-setter.

This could be your first control 

Stage 3 – SPRINT

The Sprint race of the Maximus-O-Meeting will be very demanding in terms of concentration and execution with, of course, many route choices along the random architecture of Navarredondilla. I expect really exciting and tight races.

Flow over pure speed? 

Stage 4 – CLASSIC (CHASING START)

The last (but not least) stage of the Maximus-O-Meeting will be the classic distance (chasing start) in Cabeza Mesada (map only used at the last Spanish National Champs). The brutal slope in the first half of the race will require the best skills of the orienteers to avoid critical mistakes before the second area, much flatter and extremely fast (but still tricky). Without a doubt, the icing on the cake for this great event.
