The beautiful Easter in Halden

The end of a harsh winter, with more snow than usual for this area, gives way to a beautiful spring in the forests of Halden. The days are starting to get longer, the sun is starting to warm up (until now it was a “fake” sun for a southern European like me), and there is hardly any trace of snow left (we’re crossing our fingers that we won’t see it again until next winter).

The arrival of the long-awaited spring brings with it the first races of the season, and leaves the first big goals just around the corner. In just a few weeks, we will have the Halden O Meeting (12th-14th April) at home with 3 WRE races on an exceptional terrain (Ertemarka) with luxury course-setters such as Olav Lundanes, Emil Wingsted, and Bodil & Øyvind Helgerud.

Since I came to Halden, I have always said that it is one of the best places on the planet to develop as an elite orienteer. One of the many reasons is the large amount of quality trainings an orienteer can get weekly without driving more than 20 minutes from the city. From this week, 10 permanent training sessions (the Easter package) are also offered to runners from other clubs who come to Halden to train.

My recommendation: If you can find some free time to invest in improving your orienteering skills, and want to take a step forward as an elite athlete (now or in the future), you should consider coming to Halden. There are always numerous opportunities for quality training and, if it is in the beautiful spring, even better!
