Route to WorldCup Olten #3

Only 2 days before Round-1 of the World Orienteering Cup kicks off in Olten (Switzerland). The best athletes in the world are in the final stretch of preparation and, with the final bulletin already published, they have a lot of information to analyze and carry out simulations. Exciting!

Today we suggest the third (and last) simulation leg, this time on the old map of Zofingen (2023?) which will be used for the Knockout Sprint – Qualification. Some extra fences make the route choices more difficult, and many options are open. Can you find the optimal route? Draw it by clicking the link below.

If you haven’t drawn your route yet, do not keep scrolling down!!!

We have basically 4 different route choices with not really decisive differences in terms of length.

Both A/B/C options should be quite equal in running time and, even if they have approximately the same number of turns, the routes B/C require more sharp/short turns when going through the canopy, which can affect the running speed. They are also slightly more complex in terms of execution.

Probably the safest/fastest route is the “A”, but with no big time difference with the rest (except for the “D” which is some seconds slower).

And that’s the end of the simulations for Round-1 of the World Cup 2024. Good luck to all the participants and we are looking forward to enjoying some exciting competitions!
