Route to EOC 2023 #3

And the “D” day is almost here! Only one day left before the start of the European Orienteering Championships (EOC 2023) in Trentino-Veneto (Italy), which will kick off with the Individual Sprint (Qualification and Final). We want to contribute to making a more comfortable waiting with some route-choices challenges in the maps where the main races will be held. Let’s go for the third… and last one!

ROUTECHOICE LEG – sprint final (#3)

In this “Route to EOC 2023” series, we have presented various route choices, ranging from the simplest to the most intricate. The labyrinth of narrow streets, coupled with the additional fences, significantly complicates the task of determining the optimal route when the leg is relatively longer. This challenge becomes especially pronounced in scenarios like the one illustrated below, where the exit from the control point is effectively “blocked.” Accurately assessing factors such as distance, the number of sharp turns, etc., while navigating at high speeds will pose a genuine test of skill.

Can you find the fastest route here? Could you do that while running at high-speed, or how much time would you need to stand in the control to evaluate and choose? It is not easy!
