The 2026 Orienteering World Cup begins in Locarno and Ascona with a pure sprint programme that promises speed, pressure, and demanding decision-making from the very first race. In this article, we analyse the urban character of the Swiss venue and present a simulated leg where route choice is shaped not only by distance, but also by flow, cognitive load, and the ability to read ahead under pressure.
